World of Warcaft- Is is more than just a game?

I found this on The Future of Education site.  For the past few years, I have watched my children play Warcraft and other games online.  I think this article has a lot of truth to it.  I have watched my children use problem solving to create maps, design games, talk to people all around the world, work collaboratively as team with people all around the world the win the game.  I have heard people say, "Today students do not know how to problem solve".  Watching my children play these online interactive games; I beg to differ.

Attributes of effective leaders

While researching on the web about "Effective Leadership", I came across a site that listed attributes and skills that effective leaders possess.  The attributes listed were: perseverance, judgment, sensitivity, stress tolerance, self-motivation, ability to motivate others, educational values, decisiveness, relationship with others, intellectual capacity, and physical and mental energy.  The skills listed were: problem analysis, problem prevention, organizational ability, oral communication, written communication, and management by walking around.

I showed this site to my 9th grader and asked him if he has every used this site. He said "No". I asked him if he thought it would make school more interesting and learning fun....he said "YES". I am going to check this out and in-service my elementary teachers on this digital learner tool.
